Substance Use, Addiction & Recovery Counselling for Cranbrook, BC and Surrounding Areas

How did I get here?
No one chooses addiction consciously. Substance abuse and addiction develop over time in response to pain, stress, or trauma. Drinking, using drugs or engaging in other addictive processes can be a way of coping because healthier skills were not taught or modelled when growing up. Over time, this way of coping takes on a life of its own, biochemically, and can become addiction. Addiction is not a moral failing. It is a medical and mental health issue which deserves qualified treatment to manage. Addiction can be chronic, becomes worse over time and can be fatal if not treated. Relapse is common in the recovery process.

Addiction is isolating and feels hopeless.
Addiction and recovery are not understood well in the general population which oversimplifies this complex issue. Living in addiction and in recovery can feel very lonely and hopeless. Slips and relapses happen, leaving a person feeling defeated and shameful. Healing from addiction does not happen in isolation. Long-term recovery requires compassion, understanding and accountability from supporters.
You cannot recover alone.
With over five years experience as an addiction counsellor in a residential treatment centre, I offer you the compassionate understanding and training required to face addiction and recovery, (whether you are here for yourself or to support a loved one). I can help you begin to unravel the pain that made alcohol or drugs the solution. With support, come to understand triggers, change self-defeating beliefs and behaviours, and heal shame. Over time you can develop a new way of living without using substances or unhealthy processes to cope, but it takes work.
You have found a safe, non-judgemental place to talk about addiction. Are you ready to get started?
Things can get better. Talking helps.
