Female ADHD & Hormones: The Perfect Storm
Recently I read a scholarly journal article in Frontiers of Global Women’s Health about how hormones impact ADHD and it blew my mind. It confirms that the hormonal impact during a female’s lifespan further complicates ADHD symptoms and makes the road ahead considerably more challenging.
ADHD is often overlooked in girls and women because the original research was done on males and our symptoms look different than those commonly seen in males. Many women are first treated for anxiety, depression, or burnout, and use life hacks to manage symptoms and push through. During the often-chaotic perimenopausal period, when women with ADHD are parenting teens, managing stressful careers, caring for aging parents and trying to save for retirement, our usual coping skills are compounded by tidal waves of hormonal changes and are no longer enough.
ADHD symptoms become overwhelming.

If you’ve felt like your ADHD symptoms fluctuate with your cycle or major hormonal transitions, you’re not imagining it. Your experience is real and understanding the hormonal connection can help you make sense of your symptoms and seek support that truly fits your life.
I have received formal training in working with women in the perimenopause and menopausal transition, and supporting people diagnosed with ADHD. I have personal experience with both. Let me support you navigate these challenges, have a better understanding of yourself and create change so you can feel better.
