October is world menopause awareness month and a perfect time to highlight the work the Canadian Menopause Society is doing to create change. According to the Society, more than ten million Canadian women over 40 are feeling it’s impact right now (Menopause Foundation of Canada 2026, p. 1). Symptoms can include: anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation, rage, mood swings, low libido, fatigue and a host of other physical challenges. (2026)

Despite its profound implications on physical, mental, and long‑term health, women often navigate perimenopause and menopause without adequate information, trained providers, or easily accessible care. These gaps carry real consequences and the stats are sobering:

  • According to the Canadian Menopause Foundation 50% of women in Canada feel unprepared for menopause. (Menopause Foundation of Canada, 2026, p. 3)
  • 40% of a woman’s lifespan is spent in menopause but it receives less than 3% of all female specific health research funding in Canada. (Menopause Foundation of Canada, 2026, p. 3)
  • 10% of women reduce work hours, take a position with less work or responsibility, or leave the workforce altogether due to unmanaged menopause symptoms. (Menopause Foundation of Canada, 2026, p.3)

With information comes power!

You can do your part to support the Society and it’s efforts to make menopause awareness, research and funding a priority nationwide today, because it simply has not been. Please read the report via the link below to find out more.
